Anything not disproven is possible. That doesn't mean it's certain or even likely. Those who see a faith in an afterlife as an excuse for unpleasant behavior are as right as those who see a faith in an afterlife as an exhortation for positive behavior. I guess you have to try to live as if your actions have consequences beyond their immediate effect whether your essence will survive your biological death or not. There's an old story about a man who sees another man planting a tree that will not bear fruit until after he is dead. When asked about it, the man replies "my father planted a tree like this and died before it bore fruit, but because he planted it, I had the fruit to nourish me." Sounds like a plan to me.
