Why did Obama accept the Nobel Peace Prize?

he must have been aware that he had done nothing yet to deserve it. not being Bush doesn't make him Gandhi. and if he had graciously declined it, only to have gone on to earn it anyways later, it would have been an act of great integrity. why did he accept it? it is like a slap in the face, I'm sure, to Peace Prize winners of the past?
