I usually find that single type pokemon like you have are weaker in competitive battles because they are easily countered against by opposing types, scizor is a good multi-type bug. gyrados has a HUGE weakness to elec. that's my only input there. The route under blackthorne city is really the only place to train with relatively high level pokemon until you can beat the kimono girls and get to victory road.
